Christmas in the City — Lighting of the Tree 2024

Christmas in the City is an annual event held in the heart of Launceston to bring in the beginning of the festive season. With kids activities, face-painting, live music and entertainment, and an appearance from Santa Claus, this is an event not to be missed!

The Brisbane Street Mall will be buzzing with Christmas cheer, offering entertainment for all ages, families and friends - followed by the lighting of the grand Christmas tree at approximately 8.30pm.

The Christmas in the City event is being coordinated by the City of Launceston and will feature:

• Music and entertainment on the main stage
• Fire Twirling
• A special appearance by Santa
• Storytime with Petrach's Bookshop
• Face-painting and children's activities
• Under 5s area
• SuperSillyUs Circus

• The official lighting of the Christmas tree

Take advantage of Black Friday sales and shop for the perfect gift with late night shopping available at participating stores!

*Please note, both The Avenue and St John Street, between Paterson and York St, will be closed to vehicle traffic between 6pm and 9pm.
