Mulgrave Street Pedestrian Crossing Upgrades

The City of Launceston will be undertaking pedestrian crossing upgrade works on two sections of Mulgrave Street from Monday 12 August 2024 through to approximately the end of September 2024.

Work will begin at the Mulgrave/Garfield/Pedder intersection, with work on the Mulgrave/Galvin intersection to follow.

Traffic management will be in place throughout the work period, ensuring property access is maintained.

This project is funded by the Department of State Growth Black Spot Program.

Stage one: Mulgrave/Garfield/Pedder intersection.

Works on the Mulgrave/Garfield/Pedder intersections will involve the installation of kerb extensions (outstands) and a safety bar island.

The safety bar island will make the requirement to Give Way more prominent to motorists approaching Mulgrave Street.

The kerb extensions will make it safer for pedestrians by reducing the crossing distance.

Stage two: Mulgrave/Galvin intersection.

Works on the Mulgrave/Galvin intersection will involve the installation of kerb extensions (outstands) and a traffic island/ safety bar on Galvin Street.

The kerb extensions will allow the holding line to be brought forward and improve sight distance for drivers approaching the intersection.

The traffic island and safety bar will also make the requirement to Give Way more prominent to motorists.

The kerb extensions and traffic islands will make it safer for pedestrians by reducing the crossing distance and allowing them to cross the eastern side of Galvin Street in two stages.

Additionally, two new side entry pits and manholes will be constructed on Mulgrave Street to capture stormwater.
