Update | 18 December 2024

The construction of the cycle path on Forster Street is nearing completion.

  • Installing new traffic islands and ramps at the Montagu and Forster Street intersection
  • Line marking along the cycle path

These works are expected to be completed by the end of January 2025.

17 September 2024

The City of Launceston will be constructing a cycle path on Forster Street, between Kings Wharf and Goderich Street.

The aim of this project is to complete the missing link in the Northern trail network by providing a cycle path on Forster Street, separate from the footpath, with shared path sections near intersections. This path will connect the recreational loop through Invermay, linking Riverbend Park, Heritage Forest, and Inveresk.

The Tender for construction was awarded to Crossroads Civil Contracting in July 2024.

Construction works will begin from the Kings Wharf end of Forster Street on Monday, 7 October 2024 and continue through to Goderich Street, with an expected completion date in December 2024.

The upcoming project will involve the following:

  • Construction of a dedicated cycle path, separate to the footpath, which will include new access ramps at each intersection
  • Upgraded traffic islands
  • New line marking and signage.

During the works, there may be minor traffic delays and construction-related noise. Property access will be maintained throughout the project.

Our contractors will endeavour to keep the active work sites as compact as possible, and we kindly request that no vehicles are parked near the work sites on Forster Street between 7am and 5pm, during the course of construction.

It is important to note timing of works is approximate, weather and unforeseen events may alter our programming.

Traffic management

During construction, changed traffic conditions will be necessary to allow the works to be completed safely and efficiently. This will include a reduced 40km/h speed limit through the work zone and traffic control at intersections.

Please take care while moving through the work zone and follow traffic management to ensure both your safety and the safety of contractors.
