The Road Safety Centre is back and better than ever!

The Launceston Road Safety Centre is a transport-themed children's play centre, perfect for birthday parties and family get-togethers.

It's a popular community venue where kids can ride on their bikes, scooters, skateboards or rollerblades on a model road system, complete with traffic lights, give way signs, stop signs, and pedestrian crossings.

The centre first opened to the public in 1980. It is built inside an old water reservoir originally known as the Lawrence Vale Reservoir.

Following a major landslip at the site in 2019, the City of Launceston undertook a major redevelopment of the facility installing new play equipment and engaging Tasmanian mural artist Mel McVee to reinterpret the centre's original shopfront murals.

Access to the Road Safety Centre is available via booking only.

Capacity: the centre can be used by approximately 20 children per booking

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I reserve a spot and pay later?

Booking slots must be paid for at the time of booking. They cannot be reserved. Any unpaid bookings will be automatically cancelled.

Is there a maximum booking limit?

Each booking is for a two hour session. The facility can be booked for a maximum of two sessions per hirer, per day.

What if I arrive late? Will I still be able to enter the Road Safety Centre?

Your 6-digit code will work for the duration of your booking period. For example if your booking slot commences at 9am and you arrive at 9:30am, you will be able to enter and use the centre until the end of your booked period; for a 2-hour booking this would be until 11am and for a 4.5-hour booking this would be until 1:30pm.

Can I pay in cash for my booking?

Yes, you can make a booking and pay in cash by visiting our Customer Service Centre during business hours.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day or my child is sick and we need to cancel?

Contact our Customer Service Centre during business hours to discuss your situation. If your booking was on a weekend, contact us on the next business day.

Can I cancel or reschedule my booking?

Bookings are not refundable, however the booking can be moved to a new date within 6 months of the original booking date.

Requests to reschedule a booking must be made in Bookable at least 7 calendar days ahead of the booking commencement time.

If the date you would like to move your booking to is not yet open for booking, a credit can be applied to your account. This credit must be used within 6 months of the original booking date.

No credit will be given for bookings that are rescheduled within 7 calendar days of the original booking commencement time or for no shows.
