Thousands of new blooms to brighten CBD

Launceston's CBD is coming alive for summer with 3000 flowers being planted across CBD hotspots over the next two weeks.
City of Launceston horticulturalists Tim Kirton and Kyle Love are part of the team hard at work refreshing the city's public spaces with bright pops of colour in the lead up to the summer festive season.
"This week we're planting out two garden beds in Civic Square with 350 red and 350 white petunias especially for Christmas," Tim said.
"We've used this colour combination in the past to celebrate the festive season and people love it, so it's great to be doing it again this year and we're already getting some great feedback from the community while we're working."
The City of Launceston's horticulture team will be planting close to 3000 petunias, impatiens, marigolds, dahlias and zinnias throughout this week and the next in Civic Square, Prince's Square, the Quadrant Mall, the Brisbane St Mall, and Brisbane Court.
The plant varieties are chosen for their bright and festive colours and ability to flourish in this climate and these locations. The CBD's garden beds are freshly planted out twice a year, for the summer and winter seasons.
City of Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood said the addition of the bright new flowers immediately lifts the look and feel of the city's main public spaces and added to the joy and anticipation of the festive season and summer ahead.
"I've already had some fantastic feedback from the community about the wonderful impact these flowers are having on everyone passing though Launceston's CBD public spaces," Mayor Garwood said.
"Whilst we do know it's the silly season, I encourage everyone that might be coming into the city to do their Christmas shopping at our top notch retailers to take a moment and smell the roses — well, the petunias, impatiens, marigolds, dahlias and zinnias."
