Crews from the City of Launceston are working across the municipality this morning to clear roads of fallen trees and debris, following last night's destructive winds.

We know from initial reports that there are a number of trees and powerlines down across Launceston and many roads are currently closed.

Many traffic lights across Launceston are also not operating due to power outages.

If you don't need to travel this morning, consider staying home. Parents should monitor potential school closures before travelling.

We expect our Customer Service Team will be kept very busy this morning logging reports of damage and helping to coordinate our crews.

We ask the Launceston community to assist us to keep our phone lines open by reporting issues via our online form where possible, rather than by phone: https://www.launceston.tas.gov.au/Contact/Report-an-Issue

Our online form is a simple way to report fallen trees and other hazards and only takes a moment to fill out.

Finally, for those who have lost power at their homes, the City of Launceston Leisure and Aquatic Centre will be open from 6am this morning for those needing a free hot shower or somewhere to recharge electronic devices.
