Some flood gates closed as precautionary measure

Published on 22 October 2022

Due to today's heavy rainfall across the north of the state, the City of Launceston will be closing a number of flood gates along the North Esk River overnight purely as a precaution after last week's heavy flooding impacted the region, leaving may areas already saturated.

The North Esk is not expected to reach the same flood levels experienced last week, and there are no plans to close the flood gates at Hart Street.

Residents in and around the North Esk may see Council officers patrolling the area, but there is no cause for concern.

Due to expected inundation overnight, the Council will close Station Road, while Henry Street is expected to flood at high tide and will also be closed to through traffic.

Motorists are asked to drive with caution with water across a number of roadways across the state and please obey any warning signs that are in place.
