Skater feedback sought on future park upgrades

The City of Launceston is seeking feedback from users of the Royal Park Skate Park to help guide future upgrades of the facility.

The Council is planning for future upgrade works at the facility which it expects to complete in the 2024/25 financial year, following a notice of motion from former Mayor Danny Gibson last year.

City of Launceston Mayor and Tony Hawk Pro Skater enthusiast Matthew Garwood said the Council was eager to hear feedback from users on what site improvements should be prioritised.

"We instantly think of features like new ramps, quarters, rails and boxes, but also other important factors like shade, seating and lighting," Mayor Garwood said.

"What’s really important is that we talk to and engage those who actually use the space, or those who don’t use the space – and find out why.

"We're really keen to hear from the skaters, scooter’ers and the two- wheeled pedal-pushers if there are other things we could be considering for future years.

"We want to continue enhancing the Royal Park Skate Park into the future, because we know it's well used, but we look forward to enabling and encouraging both the current and next generations to come.

"We're asking people to complete a short online survey which is available on the Council's website."

The survey will close on Friday, January 5, 2024.
