Launceston is gearing up for an electrifying afternoon of music, fun, and community spirit as the Riverbend Rock Challenge returns for 2025 this Friday April 11.

This vibrant event - held in partnership with the Tasmanian Rock Challenge - will showcase the incredible talents of Northern Tasmania’s young musicians as part of Youth Week Tasmania 2025.

This year’s Youth Week theme 'Courage: Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone' encourages and inspires our young people to step up and shine.

Taking place this Friday from 3pm to 6pm at Riverbend Park, the Riverbend Rock Challenge promises to be a family-friendly celebration of creativity and courage, featuring:

• Live music performances from talented young Northern Tasmanian bands and artists including Stella Gearman, Ava-Lee Ogden, Celestial Death, Deltime Killers and Molly Spurway.

• High energy 3-on-3 basketball matches hosted by The Academy Basketball.

• The PCYC Trailer, packed with engaging activities for all ages.

• Free Food including delicious offerings from Afghan Bolani, Little Devils Donuts, and a BBQ courtesy of the Rotary Club of Launceston.

• Youth Services providers including Headspace, Relationships Australia, National JobLink, and Anglicare Tasmania will provide valuable resources and activities for students.

City of Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood said the event was also a great opportunity to launch the Council's 2025 Youth Survey.

"Our Youth Survey is aimed at helping us update our Youth Engagement Framework to make sure it's relevant and fit for purpose into the future," Mayor Garwood said.

"The Riverbend Rock Challenge is all about supporting our young people and empowering them to perform and connect with the community, and I hope Northern Tasmanians will come out in force to cheer them on."

City of Launceston Youth Development Officer Claudia Taylor said it was a free event and everyone was welcome to come along and enjoy the music, food and festivities.

"The Riverbend Rock Challenge is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the energy and talent of our young people in Northern Tasmania," Ms Taylor said

"It's shaping up to be an amazing afternoon of entertainment and inspiration at Riverbend Park."
