Riverbend Park to open August 17

The City of Launceston has revised the official opening of Riverbend Park to Saturday, August 17.
Recent wet weather and the resultant wet ground conditions have slowed construction progress in the past few weeks, and City of Launceston General Manager Michael Stretton said the Council had made the difficult decision to delay this weekend's mooted opening to August 17.
"There are still some outstanding works that are weather dependent and we would also like to give the site an opportunity to dry out before we open to the public," Mr Stretton said.
"We've been in discussion with some local organisations about partnering with us for an official community opening of Riverbend Park on August 17, with entertainment, food and activities, and we'll announce more details of that in coming days.
"What we'd reiterate to Launceston families is that we are working very hard with our contractor to have the park ready for opening, and to please be patient — we are nearly there.
"Despite the bad weather, the park is looking really fantastic and our contractors are working rain, hail or shine to wrap construction up.
"Riverbend Park is going to be a fantastic community asset for Launceston, one of the best regional parks in Australia, and is going to have something for people of all ages and all abilities.
"It's going to be worth the wait."
