'Rail Trail' application withdrawn ahead of Council meeting

A planning application for the North-East Rail Trail has been withdrawn from consideration at the next Council meeting.
The City of Launceston was expected to consider the Development Application at this week's ordinary meeting on Thursday.
However, following discussions with the City of Launceston, Dorset has withdrawn the application from consideration to provide time to further engage with the Lilydale community over the proposal.
City of Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten said he believed the decision was in the best interests of all parties.
"Obviously there has been a lot of discussion and some division within the communities along the proposed rail trail, with plenty of passion shown within the community," Mayor van Zetten said.
"I believe the additional engagement will offer an opportunity to address the concerns that are being raised by the community."
Mayor van Zetten said he expected the application to be presented back to a Council meeting later in the year following the engagement process.
