Event organisers will have the opportunity to submit proposals for future New Year's Eve events in Launceston, when applications for a three-year sponsorship agreement open next week.

The City of Launceston's New Year’s Eve Event Sponsorship Program will provide funding support over three years to the successful proponent to coordinate Launceston's primary New Year’s Eve event.

An Expressions of Interest process will open on Monday, February 1, and will close on Monday, March 15.

Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten said the Council was seeking proposals for a New Year's Eve celebration that would continue to build community spirit and foster community pride.

"Many Northern Tasmanians enjoy celebrating New Year's Eve in Launceston with family and friends, and have demonstrated they will support high quality events," Mayor van Zetten said.

"In 2020, BeerFest successfully delivered three parallel, COVID-safe showcase events in Launceston, with a 2000-person capacity at each location.

"The three events were held at Royal Park, the Esplanade and Riverbend Park and appealed to multiple demographics across the local, intrastate, and interstate community.

"The BeerFest New Year's Eve event was the only major New Year's Eve event in Tasmania offering two world-class fireworks displays, and was the first major community event delivered in Launceston's Riverbend Park.

"As we embark on a new three-year sponsorship deal, we're eager to see what proposals event organisers have for future New Year's Eve events in Launceston.

"We're hoping to see creative proposals which will encourage community participation and deliver tourism and economic returns to the Launceston community."

Applications will also open on Monday for Major Event and Small Event sponsorship funding for event organisers coordinating events to be held between August 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021.

Applications for Major Event and Small Event sponsorships will close on March 15, 2021.

In addition, the City of Launceston's Community Grants for organisations will also open on Monday for projects commencing after May 31, 2021.

Applications for Community Grants for organisations will close on March 31, 2021.
