Launceston's popular family-friendly annual concert program is returning to City Park this summer with an expanded line-up.

Now in its 14th year, Music in the Park is a free concert series held in Launceston's City Park on Sundays throughout summer, featuring live music from talented local performers, a jumping castle for the kids and free train rides.

This summer's Music in the Park features eight concerts, with the first kicking off on Sunday, December 13, with the City of Launceston RSL Band.

Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten said the annual Music in the Park series was supported by a loyal crowd of followers.

"We do see many of the same faces year after year, because people really love City Park as a setting for events like this," Mayor van Zetten said.

"If you love taking advantage of the summer weather, getting outside with friends and family, and  live music, then Music in the Park is for you.

"The kids' activities like the jumping castle and the City Park train — which is celebrating its 60th birthday this year — are also great drawcards for the young ones."

Launceston Deputy Mayor Danny Gibson said Music in the Park was an opportunity to see some of Northern Tasmania's most talented musical performers in an incredible setting.

"This year we've got a really diverse line-up of local performers in a program that is starting in mid-December rather than January," Deputy Mayor Gibson said.

"It's the kind of event where people bring along picnic rugs and chairs, set up on the grass and while away a few hours, and City Park is a magnificent venue for it.

"If you've never been before, it's great family friendly fun. It's totally free of charge, and we'd encourage families across Launceston to head down to City Park and enjoy it this summer."

Patrons are reminded that COVID-19 precautions will be in place, and that Music in the Park is subject to weather. In the event of inclement weather, check for cancellations by visiting the City of Launceston Official Facebook page or www.launceston.tas.gov.au
