The City of Launceston is undertaking several infrastructure upgrades at Lilydale in the lead-up to Christmas, including upgrades to the Lilydale Swimming Pool, Lilydale Memorial Hall, and the installation of the town's first public electric vehicle charging station.
The Council is undertaking a $300,000 upgrade of the Lilydale Swimming Pool, and a $100,000 upgrade of flooring in the Lilydale Memorial Hall.
A contribution from the State Government's ChargeSmart Grants Program has seen a 22kw electric vehicle charger installed on Lilydale's Main Rd, adding to the City of Launceston's existing electric vehicle charging stations at the Cataract Gorge, Riverbend Park, Inveresk, and in the York St, Paterson St East and Paterson St West car parks.
Upgrade works at the Lilydale Swimming Pool involve replacement of the roof and guttering on the change rooms building, and the installation of two energy efficient 60-kilowatt heat pumps.
These will provide a new heating system for the pool, replacing the previous system which had reached the end of its useful life.
Additionally, staff from the Launceston Leisure & Aquatic Centre are repatching and repainting the pool ahead of its re-opening on Saturday, December 31.
At the Lilydale Memorial Hall, the Council is replacing 80 square metres of ageing flooring in the hall's kitchen, store room and supper room.
Subfloor mechanical ventilation is also being installed to extend the lifespan of the new flooring.
Launceston Mayor Danny Gibson said construction on the three projects was on track for completion before the end of the year.
"The Lilydale Swimming Pool and Lilydale Memorial Hall are important assets for the Lilydale community, and these works will ensure they remain fit for purpose and meet contemporary standards," Mayor Gibson said.
"We look forward to the Lilydale community being able to enjoy these upgraded community facilities in the very near future."
