Lawrence Vale Rd upgrade to get underway

The City of Launceston will begin work on a major upgrade of Lawrence Vale Road next week, with the $650,000 project set for completion in July, weather depending.
A 450m section of the road will be resealed, more than 360m of guard rail will be installed, more than 250m of footpaths will be rebuilt and realigned, and more than 280m of stormwater pipeline will be installed beneath the road surface.
At various times during construction the road will be closed to through traffic, however access to properties will be made available to local residents and essential services.
Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten encouraged motorists to consider alternative routes while the upgrade is carried out.
"This important upgrade of Lawrence Vale Road will benefit motorists, pedestrians, cyclists and other road users," Mayor van Zetten said.
"While we will keep Lawrence Vale Road open to through traffic wherever practicable, the scale of this project will require road closures to be in place from time to time, particularly during the initial phases of construction.
"We're therefore asking motorists to consider alternative routes while we undertake these essential works."
