Launceston residents encouraged to provide reform feedback

Launceston residents are being encouraged to take part in a new online survey as part of the Local Government Board's Future of Local Government Review.

Earlier this year the Local Government Board published its interim report into the future of local government in Tasmania. The interim report outlines a pathway to a new model for the State's local government sector, based on nine regional community catchments.

The City of Launceston municipality is included in the Tamar Valley Community Catchment, along with the George Town, Meander Valley, Northern Midlands and West Tamar municipalities Launceston residents are now being offered the opportunity to provide feedback on future structural reform of the local government sector in a new online survey. City of Launceston Acting Mayor Matthew Garwood encouraged all Launceston residents to have their say.

"The Future of Local Government Review is the most in-depth review of Tasmania's local government sector ever undertaken and feedback from the community is really important to determining how local government can best deliver services into the future," Cr Garwood said.

"We know that there are many Tasmanians who believe we need to reimagine how local government works in our State.

"This is the opportunity for people to outline what those changes could be and for Launceston residents to have a voice in this process, along with local government staff and elected representatives.

"The more feedback received, the better informed any future recommendations will be, so have your say."

The survey will be open until midnight on July 6 2023 and is available at: https://engage.futurelocal.tas.gov.au/
