Grand final fever touches down in Launceston
Published on 18 September 2017
North Launceston coach Tom Couch will be hoping that history repeats itself when his side takes on Lauderdale in this weekend's Tasmanian State League grand final at University of Tasmania Stadium.
The Northern Bombers booked their place in Saturday's final following their 94 point demolition of Lauderdale in the second semi-final a fortnight ago at the same venue.
North is eyeing its third premiership in four years and fourth in the statewide competition since it was reformed in 2009.
Lauderdale won through to their first ever State League grand final with a 24-point win over Launceston in Saturday's preliminary final at Bellerive - 12.14 (86) to 9.8 (62).
The Bombers were brutal in their massive win over Lauderdale in the second semi-final with key forward Taylor Whitford firing on all cylinders with four goals in a best-on-ground performance, while Bart McCulloch and Lewis Hollmer both finished with three.
North Launceston set up their win with a five goal to none opening quarter to lead by 32 points at the first break. They extended that lead at every change to eventually win 18.21 (129) to Lauderdale's 4.11 (35).
In other matches, minor premiers Launceston will play Clarence in the grand final of the Mercury Cup, while Launceston's women's team will take on Glenorchy in the women's TSL grand final.
Admission is $15 adults, $10 concession, with children (6-15yo) $2. Grand final record $5.
The Jim Bacon Gates will be open at 8am and gate 2 from 10am.
