First Basin Swimming Pool set for summer 2024/25

Tassie's most picturesque pool will officially open on Saturday for the November long weekend and summer ahead.
Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood said the First Basin provided fun and free swimming for all ages with lifeguards ensuring users were as safe as possible.
"Our lifeguards will be on duty at the First Basin pool every weekend between 11am and 4pm from this Saturday," Mayor Garwood said.
"When school holidays begin, lifeguards will be on duty every day between 11am and 4pm through until February, when the weekend lifeguard schedule will resume until the last weekend in March.
"While the basin pool is hard to beat location-wise, we also have the fantastic 65m-long waterslide at the Launceston Leisure and Aquatic Centre, along with the junior waterplay areas, lap pools and other attractions which make it such a popular community facility in the warmer months.
Mayor Garwood said that no matter where community members chose to swim this summer, it was important to make safety a top priority.
"Remember that alcohol and water never mix. Keep children six years and under within arm's reach at all times, and actively supervise children under eleven," he said.
"It's shaping up to be a great summer and we hope everyone has a fantastic time using these facilities this summer."
