The City of Launceston is calling on residents, landowners, stakeholders, and visitors to help shape the future of St Leonards and Waverley as consultation continues on its draft St Leonards and Waverley Neighbourhood Plan.

Following its endorsement last month, the plan is now out for community input, with exciting new engagement opportunities scheduled for this month.

The draft Neighbourhood Plan outlines a 30-year vision for sustainable growth, connected communities, and vibrant places in St Leonards and Waverley.

To ensure the plan reflects the needs and aspirations of the community, the City of Launceston is hosting a series of in-person events alongside its online feedback platform, Tomorrow Together.

Community Engagement Opportunities:

Pop-Up Sessions: Residents can meet the team, learn more about the plan, and share their thoughts at two drop-in sessions this weekend:

  • Friday, April 4, 9am – 11am at Waverley Primary School (carpark at corner of Innaloo St and Naroo St)
  • Saturday, April 5, 9am – 11am at St Leonards Picnic Ground

No bookings are required—just come along and enjoy a free coffee after a chat with us!

Community Workshop: Join us on Tuesday, April 8, from 6pm to 7.30pm at St Leonards Primary School hall for an interactive session.

Meet the project team, ask questions, and provide feedback on the draft plan. Light refreshments will be provided. Register at Tomorrow Together.

Online Feedback: Can’t make it in person? Share your views online via Tomorrow Together until Tuesday, April 29.

City of Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood said the Council was keen to hear from the community about the future of these key growth areas.

"St Leonards and Waverley are dynamic residential hotspots with a unique semi-rural charm, and this plan is about balancing sustainable growth with what makes these areas special," Mayor Garwood said.

"We’ve developed this draft with input from locals during the first stage of consultation and technical experts, and now we want to hear more from those who live, work, visit and invest here to ensure we’re on the right track."

Key features of the draft Neighbourhood Plan include:

• Sustainable Growth: Diverse housing options like townhouses and units, while protecting natural features such as waterways and vegetation.

• Connected Communities: Improved transport links, walkability, and cycling routes, including upgrades to St Leonards Road and a proposed green-link connection.

• Vibrant Places: New community hubs, open spaces, and local amenities, with the St Leonards Village Masterplan as a cornerstone project.

The plan also includes an Infrastructure Funding Framework to ensure essential services like roads and recreation facilities keep pace with development.

"This is your chance to help shape the next 30 years of St Leonards and Waverley," Mayor Garwood added.

"Whether it’s housing, transport, or community spaces, your feedback will refine this plan before it's finalised later this year."
