Burial Services
Carr Villa offers a diverse range of burial options tailored to meet the evolving needs of our community.
Choosing a final resting place is a crucial decision, often deeply tied to emotional connections with a specific location. Some may opt for Carr Villa for personal, cultural, historical, or genealogical significance, even if it involves traveling a greater distance. Others may prefer being laid to rest as it is in close proximity to where they've lived, fostering close connections and accessibility for family and friends to visit regularly.
The below information describes each burial locations available, as well as details on pre-planning burial arrangements.
Burial Locations:
Lawn Plaque Cemetery
Located within lawn areas of the Carr Villa site, this location offering burial sites in either single or double depth. Markings for interments consist of flat bronze plaques that are flushed with the ground on concrete beams, ensuring a consistent and neatly maintained appearance across the entire site.
The focus within this lawn cemetery is on simplicity, emphasising well-groomed lawns throughout the area.

Limited Monumental
Located within lawn areas of the Carr Villa site, this location offers a unique form of personalisation through headstones placed on concrete beams. Available in single or double-depth interments, the size of the gravestones is regulated to maintain a consistent appearance. The design and construction can be personalised and managed by families and created by professional stonemasons.
The ongoing care and maintenance of these gravestones falls under the responsibility of the respective families, allowing for personalised upkeep.

Monumental Cemetery
The Monumental Cemetery stands as the original burial ground within Carr Villa and comprises traditional-style graves known for their substantial size, grandeur, and notable stone masonry characteristics. These graves can accommodate either single or double depth burials and are marked with headstones and concrete edging. The design and construction of monumental features are personalised and managed by families and created by professional masons.
The ongoing upkeep and maintenance of individual burial sites within this section are the responsibility of each respective family.

Woodlawn Cemetery
The Woodlawn Cemetery is a dedicated space for the burial and remembrance of children and infants. This area is thoughtfully designed to offer families a serene and comforting environment.
Burials within this space can be marked with either a bronze plaque or a headstone placed on octagonal beams.

Muslim Burials
A designated area within the Monumental and Lawn Plaque Cemetery's has been to accommodate the specific requirements of Islamic burial practices.
These graves are arranged perpendicular to the direction of the Qibla (i.e. facing Mecca) to ensure that the deceased, buried without a coffin and laid on their right side, aligns towards the Qibla as per Islamic tradition.
Orthodox Burials
This burial area was specifically designated for individuals of the Orthodox faith to accommodate their burial rituals. Here, the departed are laid in single depth graves facing towards the east, towards the monumental symbols reflecting their faith.
Commonly, these monuments feature intricate and interwoven designs of the cross, a prevalent motif. Families are responsible for personalising and managing the design and construction of these monumental features, which are crafted by professional masons.
The ongoing care and maintenance of these gravestones falls under the responsibility of the respective families, allowing for personalised upkeep.
Cremation Services
The Carr Villa Crematorium provides cremation services to regulated funeral homes throughout Tasmania. Individuals and families who would like to be cremated at the Carr Villa Crematorium can request this service via their funeral home when arranging the funeral service.
We are unable to accommodate requests for cremation directly from the community, requests must come from a regulated funeral home, as per Burial and Cremations Act 2019.
For those families wishing to place cremated remains within a Carr Villa ash placement location, an administration fee will apply for remains not cremated at the Carr Villa Crematorium, therefore it is suggested to request the Carr Villa Crematorium to undertake your cremation.
Chapel Services
The Carr Villa Chapel is the perfect location to farewell a loved one in a private setting, surrounded by picturesque landscaped rose gardens.
The Chapel, located at the entrance of Quarantine Road, Kings Meadows, seats 70 guests and is available for funeral or memorial services and community use. Individuals and families that would like to utilise the Chapel for a funeral service can request this via your funeral home.
